چکیده

The effectiveness of reinforcement of a polymer is known to depend on the strength of the interfaces between the reinforcement and the matrix. We have used polystyrene and a styrene– butadiene–styrene (SBS) copolymer as matrixes and ceramic boehmite c-AlO(OH) as reinforcement. We have applied boehmite both untreated and treated with sulphonic acid based surfactants with different alkyl groups. As expected, the coupling agents improve the adhesion between the polymers and the ceramic filler. The presence of boehmite and treatments affect the glass transition temperatures determined by dynamic mechanical analysis, nanoindentation hardness hnanoindent as well as Vickers microhardness hVickers. For SBS and SBS containing composites, the hnanoindent/hVickers ratio is a constant.

Effect of different mass ratio of PLA: PEG segments in PLA-PEG-PLA copolymers on the physicochemical characterization and DNA release profile

Background: Adapting controlled release technologies to the delivery of DNA has the great potential to overcome extracellular barriers that limit gene delivery. This study investigates the effect of different mass ratio of PLA: PEG in the various tri block poly (lactic acid)-poly (ethylene glycol) - Poly (lactic acid) copolymer (PLA-PEG-PLA) on the properties of the resulting nanoparticles. Me...

Polymer–surfactant Interactions

Surfactants and polymers are two of the important components in detergent formulations. The interactions between polymers and surfactants in aqueous media give rise to the formation of association structures, thereby modifying the solution and interfacial properties. The morphologies of association complexes depend on the molecular properties of the polymer and the surfactant. In this paper, we...

Effect of Carbon Nanotube and Surfactant on Processing, Mechanical, Electrical and EMI-Shielding of Epoxy Composites

Dispersing nanoparticles in a polymer matrix is intrinsically challenging due to unfavorable entropic interactions between the matrix and the nanoparticle. In this research dispersion of nanoparticles in polymer matrix was studied and the effect of dispersion on properties was investigated. The properties of polymer composite depend on the type, size, shape, concentration of nanoparticles, and ...

Cisplatin-loaded superparamagnetic nanoparticles modified with PCL-PEG copolymers as a treatment of A549 lung cancer cells

Magnetic nanoparticles have been highly regarded because of their unique properties, such as hyperthermia, medicine control release, and diagnostic applications. The main aim of the current paper is to offer a new system for the modification of Fe3O4 (SPIONs) superparamagnetic nanoparticles physically and chemically with polymers through physical retention. These modified nanoparticles have bee...

Multi-block poloxamer surfactants suppress aggregation of denatured proteins.

On the basis of elastic light scattering, we have compared the capacity of the multi-block, surfactant copolymers Poloxamer 108 (P108), Poloxamer 188 (P188), and Tetronic 1107 (T1107), of average molecular weight 4700, 8400, and 15,000, respectively, with that of polyethylene glycol (PEG, molecular weight 8000) to suppress aggregation of heat-denatured hen egg white lysozyme (HEWL) and bovine s...
